Hatchet 3 (2013) is the third horror film in the Hatchet Series. It chronicles Victor Crowley's continuing adventures as well as his escapade across Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. The film stars Kane Hodder as Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn as Deputy Winslow, and Rileah Vanderbilt as Misty.
The film's main strength lies in its use of practical special effects. Hatchet 3 is a horror film that employs CG effects in a lesser degree than others. Hatchet 3 has a lot of practical makeup effects and sets, which results in some really horrific scenes in the movie.
The cast is strong and the lead actor Kane Hodder proving to be an formidable villain. The dialogue is hilarious and tongue-in cheek that it can feel like a classic '80s horror film. There are also some truly humorous moments that provide an entertaining contrast to the heart-wrenching action.
Unfortunately, due to the budget being small (1 million dollars) most of the locations are duplicates of previous films. Hatchet 2's boat house was used only once, and the rest of the (click now to view sites) footage feels like it was reused from previous films. The Hatchet and Hatchet 2 films may feel like the film is familiar.
Overall, Hatchet 3 was enjoyable although it was very similar in tone to previous installments in the series. It was filled with gory thrills as well as entertaining performances by its actors.
